A short Halloween story.

Hey, how are you doing? Halloween is coming soon. It is so close that I can almost taste it.
Do you like Halloween? I assume you do. After all, who doesn’t like that delicious mix of sweets and fear? It’s the best time of the year. Ghouls and goblins, ghosts and groans. You know, all that good and scary stuff.
Though I love the candy, I also love that other great Halloween tradition-the scary story. You like scary stories, right? Most people do, but some people have rather weak hearts. I’m guessing that you have a nice, strong, healthy heart. So, how about a little story?
I call this story Cabu Chaken. Strange name is it not? Try saying it. It sounds like this: ka boo cha can. Funny sounding, no?
A long time ago in a place near by, namely right here, there were beings that wanted to come here from somewhere that is not here. No, not from outer space-no bug eyed monsters or little green men. They came from the dark places that exist behind this world-places where the laws and rules are not like they are here. Places where things exist that are nothing like the things that are here. Places of ultimate darkness and endless pain.
The dwellers of that place could dimly see through to a lively world-a world full of delightful things and fresh life. This world. Naturally, they wanted to come here and feast upon the wonderful life.
But, they could not. A barrier existed between this world and that-a barrier that seemed impenetrable. The dwellers in the darkness screamed and raged against the barrier. They burned with a terrible hunger and an unquenchable thirst.
Want to know what else is odd to say? Try saying these words:
Cabu Chaken Ruken Abrellek Cotrek Abrej Osok.
Did you say them right?
Try again. Sound the letters out.
Cabu Chaken Ruken Abrellek Cotrek Abrej Osok.
How did that sound?
Now, where was I? Oh yes. These beings wanted to come here, but could not. That is, until they found a way.
Interestingly enough, they found that they could be called into the world by human beings. If a human said or even thought the right phonetic sounds, this would create a weakness in the barrier and the being called could come through for a visit.
Try the words again, if you would.
Cabu Chaken Ruken Abrellek Cotrek Abrej Osok.
You don’t want to? You are scared, perhaps?
No matter, you have already called me.
No, don’t bother to get up. No need to let me in.
I’m here with you now.
Happy Halloween.
